City of Stars are you shining just for me?

Hello Earthlings!

After days and weeks witnessing “The LA LA LAND fever” I went to the cinema to live the experience myself and see what all the fuss is about.

Since the release everybody is talking about it and has generated multi-coloured opinions and reactions. My Facebook (and I’m pretty sure yours also) it’s the living example of this debate.

One thing is certain about this movie, no one will remain indiferent.

“A movie for Dreamers” indeed. The director and writer David Chazelle demonstrates with this movie that he is not only a dreamer is also a big fan of Jazz Music, after the magnificent Whiplash , La La Land comes to tell the story of Seb & Mia two romantics without cure fighting for making their dreams come true in this cruel world.

The cinematography in the movie is a 9/10. Colourful, dynamic, smart, classy  and delightful, reminiscent of the old classic Hollywood movies, a tribute to the“Gene Kelly” type of musical. But there are some scenes too cheesy for me, the scene in the Planetarium  was too much, I nearly threw up unicorns and rainbows with that scene…honestly too much. In the other hand the film is full of stunning takes and scenes like the Opening one-take scene, the “Lovely Night” number or my favourite scene: the Epilogue, absolutely brilliant and mesmerizing.

All topped with a magistral soundtrack. I have been listening to it on loop since last Friday and I can’t stop singing!! “Here’s to the ones who dream” “Is Another Day of Sun” “Someone in the Crowd”…It is like a disease I can’t help it. Well done Justin Hurwitz I can see an Academy Award here (well deserved in my opinion).

Gosling and Stone made the perfect couple, the chemistry between them it is unbelievable and you’ll wish to live a romantic love story as passionate as theirs. Both actors gave us an unforgettable performance , some of the scenes are just breathtaking and so powerful.

For me La La Land is a 8.5/10 in some ways I love the melancholic and nostalgic vibe of the film but I think sometimes Chazelle tries just to earn the approval of the Academy using the tyical Hollywood formula and cliches. Another “mistake” for me is the abuse of the “cuteness” making the scenes sometimes cheesy and corny. But I really loved the way the film encourages you to follow your dreams and fight for them. Besides the feeling you get when the film ends, you wish your life was a musical!!.

In conclusion maybe the film is a bit overrated by the Academy and the American press but It is a must-see for the ones who love classic cinema, musicals, love and dreams.

Hope you enjoyed it! Peace and Love.

Choose Life.

Hello Earthlings!

The new year has come with fresh resolutions and brand new films for all of us!

The example is Trainspotting 2, after 20 long years of wait the sequel for the 90’s classic arrived at cinemas the past 27th of January.

20 years have gone by, Trainspotting fans want to know desperately what happened to Renton, Sick Boy, Spud and Begbie. What they’ve been up to?…What happened to the money?…Are they still on heroine? and the most important question.. Is it going to be as good as the first film?.

So last  Saturday me and a bunch of friends went to the cinema to get all the answers.

I was expecting to hear Iggy and his “Lust for Life” during the opening credits but…nevermind!, I thought, I am pretty sure the iconic song will appear sooner or later.

So the story beggins, soon we start the journey through our four “heroes” lifes.

Spud trying to run away from his old friend, heroine.

Begbie “paying” for his sins.

Mark searching for some redemption.

And Sick Boy who hasn’t changed at all, well he exchanged heroine for cocaine.

I really enjoyed the first part of the movie. The reunion of Renton and Sick Boy , the multiple references to the first  film and the visual effects, signature of Danny Boyle.

Good music, good cinematography but something it isn’t quite right, the second part of the movie is not as stunning and mesmerazing as the first one. Why? Why am I not enjoying this movie at 100%?.

Too much nostalgia, I am personally a “melancholia” lover and I like when the director uses references to the past but I think Boyle abuses too much.

He should have focused on the present storyline, it is good to remeber the glorious old times but during the second part I sometimes felt like there were no storyline at all, only flashback scenes. I get the message he wants to transmit, one way or another we live our lifes stuck in the past but we need a brand new story, a fresh one to conect the past with the present.

Besides I was very disappointed about the amount of time Boyle spent to talk about the reunion between Diane and Mark, Seriously, only one scene? Come on!

But not everything disappointed me, Spud’s evolution during the film captivated me.

The chasing scene between Begbie and Renton, absolutely brilliant.

Sick Boy’s ideas, crazy and charismatic like in the first movie.

The “Choose Life” speech, one of my favourites scenes no doubt, stunning and powerful.

And of course the moment I was expecting the most comes, “Lust for Life”.

In conclusion if you are a Trainspotting fan the second part it’s a must-see to complete the cycle, but it isn’t as good as the first one.

Hope you liked my post, you’re free to leave your opinions as always and do not forget…
